Employment Costs

Employer costs for local nationals are payable according to SIO rates. The rate for employer contributions for local nationals for 2024 is 15% and for expatriates 3%.

Minimum Wage Requirements

As of 2024, there is no minimum wage requirement for private-sector employers in Bahrain. However, the minimum for Bahraini nationals employed by the government is set to be BHD 300 per month. In addition, the National Employment and Training Scheme sets the minimum wage for public employees depending on their education qualifications.

Medical Benefits

Employees are entitled to a total of 55 days of leave per year, which includes 15 days on full pay, 20 days on half pay, and 20 days without pay.

Probationary Periods

A worker may be employed under a probationary period if expressly provided for in the contract of employment, provided that is shall nto exceed 3 months.

Termination Notice

Employers must provide 30 days’ statutory notice for termination.

Severance

The End of Service (EOS) gratuity accrual is calculated as 15 days of pay for the first 3 years of service, followed by 30 days of pay for each subsequent year of service.

Pre-hire Checks

Government screening and security checks, in-country medical checks, and police clearance certificates are commonly required for employees, particularly for expatriates or individuals working in sensitive or high-security roles. These checks ensure the individual meets legal and security requirements and is fit for work.
